The total area of managed grounds of the Université de Sherbrooke represents 52 hectares out of the 458 hectares of the total area of the University. To calculate the area of managed grounds, building footprints and impervious surfaces were excluded, as well as lands that are not regularly managed or maintained by the University (i.e., Mont Bellevue Park, Parc Écoforestier de Johnville [EN: Johnville Bog & Forest Park], and some forests and natural areas).

As part of the Université de Sherbrooke's biological pest management program, implemented in 2010, no inorganic fertilizers and no chemical pesticides, fungicides, or herbicides are used on campuses. Lawns are fertilized only with organic fertilizers. In addition, several ecological maintenance methods are in place to promote the addition of organic matter to the soil and the creation of wildlife habitats. Grass clippings are left on the ground after mowing, and most leaf litter is left behind in the fall. Despite the constant mowing, the campuses contain many dandelions throughout May, which are highly valued by pollinators. For this reason, there is no dandelion control. A mixture of grass and clover is planted in soil mixed with compost produced on campus. If necessary, peat rolls are installed in badly damaged areas. The compost produced by the main campus composter is used directly to enrich the institution's landscaping and lawns. The planting of perennial species is also encouraged in the campuses landscaping. Aeration and fertilization with compost, peat moss, and manure are carried out annually.
It is important to note that this program excludes sports fields which are currently managed with a different approach by applying synthetic fertilizers with rates of 22-4-8, 18-3-6 and 10-18-18 (as of NPK).
Finally, the implementation of this program has resulted in the control of invasive species, the planting of new trees each year as well as the incorporation of melliferous plants in the university's landscaping.
