The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) regulates workplaces of federal employees, as well as most others. The New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) regulates workplaces of New York State employees. Hazardous materials regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). The Department of Environmental Health and Safety and Human Resources office monitors our compliance with these standards.

A brief description of the methodology used to track and calculate the number of recordable incidents of work-related injury or ill health :
The human resources office is notified of a workplace injury/incident. They review the claim form received and work with employees and supervisors to obtain the information necessary to determine if a claim meets the requirements to be considered recordable. This means assessing if the incident results in death, days away from work, restricted work or transfer to another job, medical treatment beyond first aid, loss of consciousness, or significant injury or ill health diagnosed by a physician or other licensed healthcare professional.
