Substituting non-hazardous/less hazardous chemicals for hazardous ones, refrain from buying chemicals in bulk, maintain accurate chemical inventories to avoid duplicate ordering, sharing chemicals left by of outgoing researchers instead of disposing of them, eliminate mercury containing instruments/thermometers wherever possible
A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
All hazardous waste is collected by the Environmental Health and Safety Department and disposed of through third parties. All Resource Conservation and Recovery Act regulations are observed.

We have had no significant hazardous material release incidents in the last three years.

The University has taken the initiative to responsibly dispose of all unwanted institution generated electronic equipment such as PC's, printers and monitors. Disposal is facilitated by IT, in order to ensure data security. Recycling is completed by vendors who are E-steward and ISO14001 certified.
