During Bulldog Welcome Week, students have the opportunity to select from a wide variety of workshops to help introduce them to campus. The Office of Sustainability consistently offers workshops -- typically an overview of sustainability operations on campus as well as opportunities to get involved through sustainability activities. The Office of Sustainability also trains the Bulldog Welcome Week student staff and Housing Resident Assistants around waste sorting (proper composting, recycling, and landfill disposal) so that they can share that information with the incoming student groups. Incoming students typically receive reusable water bottles when they arrive and are introduced to the the many water bottle filling stations around campus during their events -- promoting the ethic of reuse and reducing single-use item waste. Attendees also participate in low-waste meals and other activities (energy pledges, eco-movies, green water bottle give-aways, and re-uasable backpack bags.)

UMD Sustainability Office staff and students work directly with the Kirby Student Center Bulldog Welcome Week team to help plan events. At the beginning of the weekend, the attendance nears 98%, and near the end of the event, it wanes to around 89 - 90%.
