USC’s University Park Campus (UPC) and Health Science Campus (HSC) are subject to the City of Los Angeles Stormwater LID ordinance. These two campuses together comprise the entire university; all of USC campus land follows the LID ordinance. This ordinance requires that LID measures be incorporated into the design of all development and redevelopment projects which add, create or replace 500 square feet or more of impervious area. USC adheres to the stringent requirements of this ordinance.

USC must adhere to the City of Los Angeles LID ordinance which requires that the 85th-percentile 24-hour runoff event be infiltrated, evapotranspired, captured and used, and/or treated by using high efficiency Best Management Practices (BMPs). For construction projects which disturb 1 acre or more, USC must adhere to the State Construction General Permit Order 2009-0009-DWQ. This permit requires the development of a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) which eliminates the discharge of pollutants with rainwater runoff from a construction site.
