A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Due to COVID, new student orientation was virtual for summer 2020 and while the Office of Sustainability took part in-person in previous years sustainability continued to be a featured topic as a part of virtual orientation activities.
New and transfer students take part in SOAR (https://soar.wisc.edu/) for orientation and while synchronous virtual components were limited to course registration and academic advising sustainability was included in the course planner distributed to new students (copy attached) as well as in asynchronous virtual components including a video explaining how to get involved in campus sustainability (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oggRvETyA7k).
For new graduate students the graduate school distributes a virtual guide to graduate student life (https://gradlife.wisc.edu/) which includes material on sustainability (https://gradlife.wisc.edu/being-a-badger/#sustainability) as well as holding a (virtual) resource fair where the Office of Sustainability attended and educated participants on sustainability on campus.
Across the events described above all first-year, transfer, and graduate students had an opportunity to take part in programming that prominently includes sustainability during their orientation activities.
