A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Institution uses green infrastructure to manage rainwater and employs LID practices on a case-by-case basis or for demonstration projects (i.e., in the absence of formal policies, plans or guidelines).
Implementation of water trapping areas (Canaan green) are in place and filters such as “Fill-Tera” that purify water as it enters storm drains (by the Train Station). There is a bio retention system at the Hillel House and AD Pi and a green roof at the undergraduate library. Underground storm water retention structures are used at several locations (Elrod Commons, Augusta Square, Duchossois Athletic Center, Center for Global Learning, Natatorium, to purify water before it is discharged to storm drains. Rain gardens are also utilized in 3 locations across campus.

Rainwater projects are evaluated on case by case basis. The University follows all local, state, and federal storm water regulations. The University is planning to begin design of a rainwater reuse project in Fiscal Year 2022-23 to offset water use at the Central Heating and Cooling Plant, which is the single largest point-use of water on campus.
