Has the institution held at least one sustainability-related outreach campaign during the previous three years that was directed at students and yielded measurable, positive results in advancing sustainability? :
Yes

Has the institution held at least one sustainability-related outreach campaign during the previous three years that was directed at employees and yielded measurable, positive results in advancing sustainability?:
Yes

Name of the campaign:
"Go for the Green Challenge"

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

"Go for the Green is a competition between all the residence halls on campus. It determines which hall can reduce the most water, waste, electricity, and natural gas. Halls can win based on their percent reduction in electricity, by signing the total reduction pledges, and attending sustainable education program/events hosted by their Eco Reps. This competition works to educate WWU campus resident's on sustainable practices that can be implemented in their hall and taken with them beyond campus housing.
Eco Reps host events and work with hall council to educate residents. Lead Eco Reps attend all of their Eco Rep's events and help assist the Eco Reps in creating high quality educational events. ResRAP Staff (Coordinator and assistant) collect points and work with campus community leaders (RA's/RD's) to keep campus excited and involved in the competition all winter quarter. ResRAP staff also coordinate the Go for the Green Celebration, where the winner of Go for the Green is announced. Every year ResRAP staff collect donations from local businesses to give to students and staff who attend the Go for the Green Celebration and who participated in the Go for the Green Challenge."

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

This year our Eco Reps succeeded in having 21% of campus residents sign the reduction pledge. Every hall reduced electricity use from last year, with Fairhaven leading the pack by reducing their energy use by 58% from last year. Eco Reps also held a total of 26 events in their halls during winter quarter. Data from past challeneges can be found here: http://www.wwu.edu/sustain/resrap/gftg/past-challenges/

Data for energy reduction is found here: https://energydashboards.wwu.edu/
Eco Reps track signatures from their hall and then the ResRAP staff find the percent of that hall that signed the pledge.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Power Down

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):

Employees are encouraged to reduce campus wasted energy load during holidays and extended breaks by forwarding "Power Down for Break" reminder messages to faculty, staff, and students. A Power Down - Poster Series was created, and is updated seasonally, to provide an attractive visual cue and reminder checklist, using the following text: Before you leave for break - remember to Power Down. Help reduce WWU standing electricity load (also known as power drain) or phantom load: Turn off computers, monitors, & printers; Unplug chargers & small appliances (not the refrigerator); Leave the thermostat at its normal setting; Close the windows & the shades; Turn off lights & shut windows in unoccupied rooms; Water plants; Remind colleagues & students to "power down" before leaving; Enjoy the break!

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Thanks to the campaign, campus-wide "Phantom load" has been consistently reduced during breaks.
