Bike to Work Week

A brief description of the campaign:

In partnership with the HUB, which organized the first Bike to Work Week, Langara employees participates in the bi-annual bike to work week. A celebration station is also set up providing free refreshments, prize draws, and basic bike tune-ups for any cyclists that stop by, they need not be affiliated with Langara College.

*The HUB is a not-for-profit organization that educates on the benefits of cycling such as cultivating the health, environmental, and economical benefits that cycling can bring.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Langara's Bike to Work Week coordinator has tracked participation data on bike to work week activities since May 2007. With the exception of 2020 (which saw lower participation due to COVID 19 and associated shift to remote work and learning), Langara has generally seen a measurable increase in: 1) number of Langara College employees that registered rides, 2) the number of bicycle trips taken during the bike to work week event, and 3) the number of kilometers cycled during the bike to work week event.

Sustainability Student Ambassadors Waste Sorting Game

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The Sustainability Student Ambassadors Waste Sorting Game outreach campaign was designed to raise awareness regarding waste management issues among the Langara community by engaging students and faculty on how to sort waste in a fun way. Cards with pictures and names of various items were placed in front of students and they had to place each card in the correct bins. The first Waste Sorting Game was held on February 26, 2020.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The first instance of the Waste Sorting Game had 78 participants with average results of 3.4/5. The Waste Sorting Game will be used in future in-person Langara events, Orientation Day, etc.
