Has the institution held at least one sustainability-related outreach campaign during the previous three years that was directed at employees and yielded measurable, positive results in advancing sustainability?:
Yes

Name of the campaign:
Fall Sustainability Events - Campus Sustainability Month

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:

Every September, a Fall Sustainability/Bike/Light Fair is held mid month to launch the fall sustainability campaign events. The event now attracts approximately 1,000 faculty, staff, and students, who have over 20 information tables to visit; free bike registration, safety and minor repairs by University Police; heavily discounted LED lamps and fixtures for the entire University community; and Green Office Challenge information to further engage employees. There are also sustainable food vendors placed near the bicycle registration/safety area; and NU Dining provides an information table about their own sustainability efforts. From that event until the mid-November America Recycles Day event, there are approximately 15 events held campus-wide to educate and engage the community in the University sustainability initiatives. These coincide with October's Campus Sustainability Month (launched in 2009 by AASHE). The fall campaign culminates with America Recycles Day, when information tables are available to promote recycling education, and also included LED lamp giveaways during two of the last three years.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Increased student attendance at the biweekly Student Sustainability Committee; growth in Northeastern's Sustainability social media pages' followers; new employee interest/engagement in Green Office Certifications.

Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
Green Office Challenge education and awareness-raising

A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):

Regular information tables with prominent banners, to inform and engage employees in the Green Office Challenge Program. Increased social media outreach to engage employees, and contacts through individual offices and the EcoAmbassadors (who are self-designated contacts on behalf of the Green Office Program). During 2020, extensive outreach took place with regional campus employees to identify how they could engage with the Green Office Program and related Sustainability initiatives. In 2021, these contacts will help continue the program's growth and engagement. The monthly Green Office Newsletter tips is very well received; in 2021 it is being revised and improved to reflect the Sustainability Office's branding and consistency efforts.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Regional campus staff have expressed documented interest in engaging with the Green Office Program and other Sustainability events, especially ones that are virtual and easily accessed from other locations. During 2021, the Green Office database is being analyzed to provide quantitative results of these efforts, to be included in a written report, and presented during a Green Office lunch/learn April 2021.

A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns, including measured positive impacts:

Hallowgreen is a fun, annual information tabling that offers sustainability tips around Halloween/fall harvests.

Visual facts related to sustainability efforts are highlighted in buildings meeting LEED certification and in high traffic areas. These visuals include facts related to water saved, electicity saved and goals aligned with conservation and innovative building designs and programs that have increased our sustainability campus wide.
