Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
Comprehensive policies, plans or guidelines that require LID practices for all new projects

A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:

The San Diego Community College District retained Nasland Engineering to provide general planning, engineering and surveying services for their Mesa College Campus. The initial services included the preparation of a Utility Master Plan for the Campus that corresponds to their current Campus Master Plan for site development through 2015. The scope of this phase of work included documenting existing site utilities and the preparation of the Utility Master Plan to recommend modifications and upgrades to the existing sewer, water, storm drain, gas, electric and telecommunications systems. Discussions regarding stormwater management are provided. Project specific recommendations for stormwater treatment, and particularly low impact development (LID) features, would be provided as each phase of construction comes on line.
Previous concrete allows stormwater to pass directly through, thereby reducing the amount of runoff from the site that would be displaced by typical concrete or asphalt paving. It is traditionally used in parking areas and is a recognized best management practice by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for stormwater management.

A copy of the institution’s rainwater management policy, plan, and/or guidelines:
A brief description of the institution’s rainwater management policy, plan, and/or guidelines that supports the responses above:

To improve stormwater quality, landscaped islands and medians could be designed to function as stormwater retention areas or rain gardens to mitigate and treat stormwater ows.
Landscape BMP’s such as vegetated swales or rain gardens should be implemented at the base of the slope to promote infiltration of stormwater and to provide ltration of excessive ows before entering the storm drain system.
Stormwater mitigation could be accomplished with a variety of sustainable drainage solutions including vegetated swales, rain gardens, and pervious paving
