In the Library guide, it is stated there are alternatives to buying textbooks. The Library carries some current and previous editions of textbooks that can be lent out to students. Texas Tech University Libraries host a Document Delivery/Interlibrary loan program. Document Delivery (Interlibrary Loan) allows users to request items held by Texas Tech Libraries and libraries around the world. This is a free service for faculty, students, and staff of Texas Tech & Texas Tech Law School.

The University Libraries hosts Course Reserves. Course Reserves is a service available to Texas Tech faculty and students. Open Access Week Awards
The purpose of the Open Access Award is to recognize faculty who have made their research open or used open materials in their courses. It is intended to assist faculty when demonstrating the impact of their work.

Open Access Publication Award
This category recognizes faculty that make an effort to make their work open through self-archiving or through the publisher.

Open Education Award
This category recognizes efforts in publishing open educational content such as textbooks, course materials, and lesson plans.

Open Access Advocacy Award
This category recognizes efforts such as editing, advocating, giving presentations, and other efforts to support and promote open access.

Open Data Award
This category recognizes faculty that work to make their data adhere to FAIR data principles by making their data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.

Texas Tech University Libraries hosts open educational resources as an alternate textbook program. The Texas Tech University Libraries Open Educational Resources (OER) Office promotes an equitable learning environment by educating the university community on the benefits of open educational resource adoption in higher education.

Vision
The Texas Tech University Libraries Open Educational Resources (OER) Office will serve as an advocate for student success and educational equity, and work to reduce the cost of learning materials in the Texas Tech University System.

Services
Advocate for the usage of OER or other no to low cost options when faculty are selecting materials for courses.
Educate the campus community on the benefits of OER usage in classrooms and the impact that these cost savings can have on TTU students.
Collaborate with various campus departments and organizations to encourage open conversations around textbook affordability
