A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):

Pitt Green Ambassadors is a peer-education program that embeds sustainability throughout the University of Pittsburgh across multiple departments, campuses, and areas of expertise.

Individual Pitt Green Ambassadors have demonstrated their knowledge of Pitt Sustainability programs and competence in incorporating sustainability best practices into their work. Pitt Green Ambassador support actively helps the University advance sustainability and reach towards carbon neutrality.

To become a Pitt Green Ambassador, individuals must be willing to educate their peers about sustainability at Pitt and best practices, volunteer once annually to educate new employees, stay informed about University and campus Sustainability happenings (via newsletter and otherwise), support their office or lab in getting a "Pitt Green" designation, and demonstrate their abilities via one of the following:
• Complete the Pitt Sustainability Professional Certificate and score 70%+ on the exam
• Be a dedicated member of the Chancellor’s Advisory Council on Sustainability
• Be a Pitt Sustainability intern, EcoRep, or Student Office of Sustainability (SOOS) student leader for over 12 combined months.

Pitt Green Ambassadors are tasked with recruiting one new Pitt Green Lab, Pitt Green Office, or Pitt Green Resident annually -- through informal peer-to-peer education and outreach, referral, or through once-yearly volunteering with the Office of Sustainability.

Green Ambassadors are coordinated through biyearly meetings and receive notification of ongoing volunteer, leadership and mentorship opportunities from the Sustainability Engagement Manager, who also manages the Pitt Green Office & Lab program and administration. They are empowered to move their peer interactions about sustainability towards action through use of prepared slides and program flyers with next steps to participate in Pitt's green engagement program.

A brief description of the employee educators program’s target audience (1st program):

The target audience for Pitt Green Ambassadors is staff, faculty, and student leaders who are already engaged and familiar with Pitt’s Sustainability efforts.
