The Equity and Environment Fund, supported by the Civic Engagement Subcommittee, is available for students/student groups for community-based initiatives or projects that sit at the intersection of equity, justice, and sustainability. Proposals are being accepted on a rolling basis.


A brief description of the multi-stakeholder decision-making process used to determine which projects receive funding through the sustainability projects fund:

MISSION
The Green Initiative Funding Tomorrow (GIFT) Grant, provided by StudCo’s Sustainability Agency, is a fund that enables and empowers students to take an active role in advancing UVA’s commitment to a sustainable future. This source of funding supports projects that engage the community, address an environmental concern, and have a lasting impact.

REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must be a current student at the University of Virginia.

No more than $800 will be approved. Requests may be approved partially or in full.

EVALUATION CRITERIA
Must address access

Submitted by a UVA student on behalf of an individual project, office, or department

Prioritizing individual projects without other funding opportunities

Project is clearly outlined, with appropriate steps included and timelines

Proof of any necessary approval for the project is shown

Project demonstrates environmental benefits (emissions reduction, water conservation, storm water management, biodiversity conservation, waste minimization, etc.)

Project includes opportunities for community engagement and/or will positively impact the community

Considers outreach/education opportunities and has considered them in implementation

All projects must have a mechanism for evaluation throughout the course of the project.
