This is an optional Innovation & Leadership (IL) credit. IL credits recognize institutions that are seeking innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and demonstrating sustainability leadership in ways that are not otherwise captured in STARS. Scoring in the Innovation and Leadership section is capped at 10 bonus points total.

My institution purchases a number of food products that are Fair Trade certified. Does this qualify?

No, in order to qualify for this bonus credit, your institution must be designated a Fair Trade College or University by Fairtrade International/FLO and its members (e.g., Fairtrade Canada),Fair Trade Campaigns USA, or an AASHE-approved equivalent. Purchase of food products that are fair-trade certified earns points under the Dining Service Procurement credit.
