IL credits recognize institutions that are seeking innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and demonstrating sustainability leadership in ways that are not otherwise captured in STARS. Scoring in the Innovation and Leadership section is capped at 10 bonus points total.

Does certification of athletic teams have to be in place in order to earn points?
Athletic team certification, or formal recognition of sports teams that integrate sustainability into their culture and practices, is not a requirement to earn this bonus credit.
Suggestions for Institutions
- Work with your institution’s athletics department or similar to determine what green athletics programs are in place, and/or to consider implementing such programs.
Potential Data Quality Issues
- To qualify and earn the bonus point, the institution must participate in a green athletics program AND provide evidence of guidelines, checklists, policies, or assessment criteria.
