The College's Strategic Plan is articulated in the document "Being and Becoming" as amended in 2006. Environmental dimensions of sustainability are addressed as foundations of Berea College's mission and goals throughout the document, including in sections about Budgeting and Facility Planning on pages 4 and 40, a description of the College's approach to sustainability initiatives on page 40, and incorporation of sustainability in both Learning Goal #2 (p. 57) and "Question 7" on page 82.

A brief description of how the strategic plan or amendment addresses the social dimensions of sustainability:

From footnote 82 of the plan, "For many, the term sustainability has mostly ecological connotations, which are evident in Berea College’s ecological building renovations. However, the overall concept and movement of sustainability also includes social components for ensuring the most efficient, effective, and healthy application of human resources and relationships. In this strategic question, the phrase “sustainable workload expectations” refers to this concept of social sustainability." Social dimensions of sustainability are addressed in the Learning Goals. The Strategic Plan addresses economic inequality in terms of the socio-economic background of the students Berea College serves, interracial and gender opportunity that the College was founded on. It's "no tuition" approach to providing educational opportunity to students with limited resources speaks directly to the commitment the economic and social dimensions of sustainability.
