Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
LGBTQIA Task Force

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

In October 2018, LGBTQIA Task Force was formed to facilitate University-wide discussions about how Boston University can become a more LGBTQIA+ inclusive community for faculty and staff and develop recommendations to help Boston University meet this objective. The Task Force submitted its final report in Spring 2019 to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Operations, outlining a set of strategic objectives for improving the workplace experience for LGBTQIA+ employees at BU. Two of the recommendations in the report were: 1) expanding the number of gender-neutral bathrooms on campus 2) creating and maintaining a resource page on BU website for LGBTQIA+ members in the community 3) launching a professionally-staffed center on campus to support and connect employees who identify as LGBTQIA+. Since the report was published, there has been a substantial effort to convert all single-occupant bathrooms on campus into all-gender bathrooms. In addition, a webpage compiling resources available to the LGBTQIA+ community at BU is live on the BU Howard Thurman Center website. On September 2, 2021, the LGBTQIA+ Center for Faculty and Staff was also launched.
