In March 2022, the Boston University Center for Career Development, in collaboration with the Newbury Center, launched the BU Professional Clothing Closet which provides students with free professional attire appropriate for interviews, networking events, career fairs, and the workplace. Students are allowed to take and keep up to four clothing items each school year, with options inclusive of all genders and sizes. The Closet was formed to ensure that low-income and first-generation students have a resource on campus that can help them feel confident and successful in professional environments, but the Closet is open for all students to use with no proof of need required. The clothing items are supplied through donations, extending the life cycle and use of existing clothes - an important aspect of improving the sustainability of clothing. The Professional Clothing Closet is located in the Yawkee Center for Student Services.
