Dawson's Student Success Action Project (SSAP) fund allocates micro-grants to teachers and staff for student curricular, co-curricular or extra-curricular projects that meet the graduate profile of the college (and that meet sustainability principals). Projects that meet UN SDG goals are given preferred application status as of 2020. The SSAP application form states the following with regards to sustainability Is your Project Sustainable?*

A brief description of the faculty research program, including the incentives provided and any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

Dawson has allocated over $150,000 to teacher class release yearly for sustainability research and projects. The College has financially supported researchers by releasing them from part of their teaching load and paying for replacements so they can engage in research. Recent research support includes:
Food security & justice, Sustainable campuses project, UDL, peace, learning communities, and within the disciplines of graphic design, interior design, nursing, physical education, multi-media, and sociology

2. Involvement of students in research
• Winter, 2018: Two courses of students involved in research—Advanced Environmental Studies and Advanced Topics: Food and Environment, 81 students total carried out individual research projects and research posters related to food, sustainability, and environmental issues.
• Fall, 2018: One course of students enrolled in Advanced Topics: Sociology of Food, 16 students carried out individual research projects related to the sociology of food.
• Research Assistants:
o Three master’s level research assistants: qualitative methodologies in community food assessments, data/GIS/mapping on the Montreal food system.
o Two interns associated with the Institute for Health and Social Policy (IHSP), McGill University: community food organizations, school food policies
o One Dawson intern in social sciences focused on Montreal food systems.

The inaugural 4TH SPACE program focuses on student and faculty work that questions and influences our understanding of food and how it is evolving.

What are the essentials that make a city sustainable, resilient, livable and playable?
4th Space brings together faculty, students, the city, and industry to collaborate, experiment and explore ideas about what the city is and what it could be in the future.
The program gathers a diverse range of research, conversation and viewpoints into a dynamic experience for the public.

The City of Montreal is now using this research as a food mapping model.

A Preparatoria (high school associated with a university) was designated a Living campus; 4 International Forums were implemented, videos documenting projects created; a book reporting on the first two years of the projects and a sustainable campuses board game was produced.

A brief description of the institution’s support for interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary research, including any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

There is no association between obtained tenure at the college level in Quebec and research. Research during employment at the college is voluntary and supported by the College. Tenure is strictly workload-related over a certain number of years.
Experience both in and of this type of research can, however, be an important consideration when applying for administrative and/ or managerial positions within certain college sectors.

Yes

A brief description of the institution’s library support for sustainability research, including any positive outcomes during the previous three years:

The library, as part of its support to students, keeps up to date journal banks, access for teachers and supports individual students with sustainability-related research. Specific sustainability-related resources can be requested and purchased if not available. Fifteen of the largest research data bases and that deliver full-text, electronic access to articles from tens of thousands of subscription and open access periodicals. material is available in French and English and includes print collections, eBook collections, eReferences and video streaming. Students can visit research help desks and have library staff help them with specific research. College students have implemented more than 100 action-research projects and used the library collection and services to further their research.
