On July 1st, 2022, Duquesne affirmed its commitment to sustainability by ratifying the University Sustainability Committee (USC), whose charge is to support, grow, and promote the University’s efforts to build a sustainable campus. This 98-member committee—an assembly of faculty, staff, and students across the University— fosters opportunities for multidisciplinary engagement across academic units, facilities, and university leadership; and identify new opportunities for curricular and infrastructural resiliency. During the past year, sustainability committee members co-taught the course "Climate Change, Resilience, and Sustainability" and co-sponsored the event "A Moral Response to Air Pollution: A Dialogue with U.S. Rep. Summer Lee," open to the general public and held on Duquesne's campus. The committee continues to develop community partnerships, through which, most recently, they have:
-Planted 500 blueberry bushes for distribution across the city, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Blueberry Project and Pennsylvania Interfaith Power and Light;
-Supported honors fellowship work to promote gardening within local immigrant and refugee communities, through Grow Pittsburgh; and
-Participated in "Bike to Campus Week 2023," in conjunction with Bike PGH.

Duquesne University is proud to partner with Parkhurst Dining to provide a sustainable dining service. Duquesne's primary dining hall, Hogan Hall, composts 100% of pre and post-consumer materials. Duquesne's catering services composts all pre-consumer materials. Dining Services also works hard to provide vegan and vegetarian options and locally sourced products. This past year, Duquesne University installed a Totemic Solutions food dehydration system in Trinity Hall, to turn food scraps into compost.
