Olivia Witsaman (she/her/hers) | Assistant Director of
Civic Engagement & Leadership Development

Advisor of the Community Engagement Board - a paid organization of 8 Pratt students who program on and off-campus community service opportunities for Pratt students. I will also provide additional CBoard 2023-2024 Program Information, for your reference and to help support my answers to your questions below (the highlighted numbers are what I used to estimate the number of students engaged in community service).

However, I want to acknowledge that this is not an exhaustive list of the service opportunities provided by various divisions, departments, or other student organizations at Pratt. For example, I know that for MLK Jr. Legacy Week the Office of Undergraduate Advising volunteered at CHiPs Food Pantry & Soup Kitchen. There may be various opportunities like this offered to students, faculty, and staff that I am not aware of or part of the programming.

Number of students engaged in community service:

359 during the 2023-2024 academic calendar year. This estimate is compiled from the Engage RSVPs and attendance numbers Cboard has reported, donation items contributed by the Pratt community, as well as letter/cards we have received for various organizations during tabling programs.

Total number of student community service hours contributed annually:

30 Total Hours Estimated for Off-Campus Opportunities. An estimate was made by adding the time frames of each event hosted (not including travel time).

During the timeframe, we hosted 11 pop-up events on campus which students engage with in various degrees. Most popup events entail some type of card-making, letter-writing, donations, etc.

Does the institution have a formal program to support employee volunteering during regular work hours?:

From my understanding, we do not. However, I started in August, so I may not know of a program like this. If so, it has not been brought to my attention.

However, I do know that there is a desire for Pratt Faculty/Staff to be more involved in supporting local community service projects. For example, I am part of a group of staff, faculty, and students who are brainstorming how the Pratt Community can do more to support the residents of the migrant shelters on Hall Street as there is a large need for support. These efforts are led by VPSA Delmy Lendof.
