Paul Scanlon, SRU Director of Sustainability, serves as the chair of the PASSHE Sustainable Development (SDTF), a network of the 14 state system colleges. The SDTF is focused on sharing best practices among all colleges, has completed a sustainability plan and initiatives inventory to identify areas of expertise that can be shared with other colleges in need of assistance in raising their sustainability efforts. The SDTF is currently developing a Request for Proposals for a renewable Power Purchase Agreement, for which 4 individual universities have teamed up to take advantage of the economies of scale.
Dr. Amir Mohammadi, SRU's VP of Finance, Administrative Affairs & Advancement, is currently the Chair of the Sustainability Advisory Panel for the National Association of College & University Business Officers (NACUBO). The Sustainability Advisory Panel is responsible for advising the NACUBO Director of Environmental Leadership on campus issues such as financing sustainability projects, operational issues such as energy, dining services, transportation, green buildings and design, leadership and governance, and smart growth and campus planning. Advisory Panel members include representatives of eleven universities, including leaders in sustainability such as the University of California/Irvine and Arizona State University

SRU shares the resources of the Macoskey Center with biology departments of the University of Pittsburgh and other regional colleges each year, as part of a summer program of environmental education at Pymatuning State Park. The Teacher/student groups visit the Macoskey Center on the first day of the program and receive a presentation on SRU's sustainability programs and Presidents Climate Commitment progress, as well as a tour of the sustainability features of the facilities and grounds.
