The global shift towards integrating Environmental Sustainability into higher education is evident, with universities revising their missions, courses, research, and campus operations to embrace environmental considerations. In Peru, universities are aligning with this movement, developing institutional environmental policies as a primary step towards embedding environmental perspectives.

A significant driving force in Peru is the Interuniversity Environmental Network - Interuniversia Peru (RAI Peru), facilitated by the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM). RAI Peru aims for a dual impact: raising awareness among university stakeholders about environmental contexts and fostering sustained environmental integration into core functions.

Among these institutions, the Scientific University of the South stands out. With 4 consecutive years of first-place recognition from RAI Peru, it showcases an unwavering commitment to sustainable management. This achievement underscores the university's dedication to global sustainability calls.

University's Carbon Footprint Measurement and Mitigation Initiatives

A brief description of the second program/initiative/accomplishment:

The university has been annually measuring its carbon footprint since 2019, obtaining recognition from the Ministry of the Environment for the measurement, verification, and implementation of mitigation measures. Currently, we are developing an extensive mitigation plan based on the information collected during the years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.
