The environmental and physical planning specialization offered by the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at UB involves the study of how to use the planning process to resolve three broad sets of problems:
minimizing the negative effects of environmental problems on human health and urban and regional systems;
minimizing the negative effects of human settlements on ecosystems; and
planning for the remediation and restoration of natural systems;
planning the development of cities, suburbs, and rural areas to be sustainable.

A brief description of the graduate degree program (3rd program):

The Environmental Health concentration of the Masters of Public Health degree prepares graduates as environmental health scientists. As an environmental health scientist, you will explore the relationship of agents found in air, water and soil to cancer, birth defects, neurological disorders and other health conditions. As an environmental health practitioner, you will use this understanding to identify hazards in the environment, assess the risks and design interventions.
