A brief description of how sustainability is included in new employee orientation:

Staff Development and Professional Services (SD&PS) runs an online New Employee Orientation (eNEO) as well as a virtual New Employee Welcome-Virtual (NEW-V) event offered monthly. In addition a live or pre-recorded Zoom Benefits Orientation is available for all new employees.

eNEO includes the UC Davis Sustainability's website URL. New employees also watch a video about turning campus olives, which used to be a waste material, into olive oil. eNEO includes the following information about campus sustainability: Dining Services' sustainability efforts - “…as part of our commitment to a sustainable future, UC Davis food services use innovative techniques to achieve the 4 Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Rebuy.”

During the Covid-19 pandemic the UC Davis employee orientation process largely shifted to virtual or online educational resource opportunities. The UC Davis New Employee Handbook contains many references to campus resources promoting several dimensions of sustainability. These resources include:

An introduction to the UC Davis Principles of Community which underlie campus efforts and commitment towards diversity, equity and inclusion.

An introduction to Campus Planning and Environmental Stewardship, the campus unit containing the UC Davis Sustainability department, which highlights the ways that sustainability and environmental stewardship are integrated into all aspects of campus life.

Aggie Surplus program which supports sustainability as it returns into circulation excess campus equipment, furniture, and supplies and sells surplus property to the general public and university departments.

Campus Recreation resources to enhance well-being and the edcuational experience in the UC Davis communtiy; creating an inclusive and engaging environment that inspires passion, excellence, and a healthy quality of life.

Campus Community Book Project which advances the mission to improve both the campus climate and community relations, to foster diversity and to promote equity and inclusiveness.

UC Continuing and Professional Education, the professional and continuing education arm of the university, which offers several sustainability-related courses and certificates

Staff and Faculty Health and Well-being with a mission to develop promote and support a thriving culture of health and well-being throughout the UC Davis community.

Other resources promoted to new employees include:

- The Sustainability office’s Green Workplace program

-Transportation Services' alternative transportation options and the goClub

-The availability of on and off-campus farmers markets

-WorkLife, which encompasses dependent care, health and wellness, financial support, career flexibility, and community involvement

-Numerous health and safety policies and practices, including health center locations and related programs

-Campus-sponsored education and development opportunities

In Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS), when an employee is on boarded with Human Resources, they are given a handout that gives an overview of sustainability practices in SHDS and a webpage URL where they can find more information.
