A brief description of the single-use disposable plastics that have been banned or eliminated:
The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) recently revised the Sustainable Practices Policy. This revision states that the institution will prioritize waste reduction through reducing, reusing, and recycling and composting in the following years. The policy states that campuses “will prohibit the sale, procurement, and distribution of packaging foam.” For laboratory usage, the university will opt for sustainable alternatives to packaging foam. Further, single-use plastic foodware accessory items, plastic bottles, expanded polystyrene, and plastic bags will be phased out, replaced, and/or eliminated in foodservice facilities. The campus has been actively working in this area within UCR Dining and with third-party vendors to meet these goals.
