A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:

REBOOT mobile/online game

REBOOT is a mobile/online game created by the Sustainability Office and MU students and is a high-tech scavenger hunt that challenges players to take better care of the Earth. It was funded by a $24,500 grant trough the Interdisciplinary Innovations Fund through the University. http://committees.missouri.edu/mu-information-technology/call-for-proposals.php

At its core, REBOOT Mizzou aims to show participants creative ways to be environmentally friendly. But it is packaged in a way that makes it entertaining for students.

Reboot Mizzou spans 10 weeks, and every week participants are given a list of challenges to complete. Students collect points by using mobile devices to scan codes at activity sites or by snapping photos of themselves engaged in the challenge and uploading them. The team with the most points in April wins $1,000.

The game revolves around a story line set in the year 2117 and stars an MU researcher, Ava. Ava is studying a period early in this century during which humans got into healthier habits that caused a struggling Earth to "reboot" itself and become healthy again.

The website, www.rebootmizzou.com, doubles as a social media platform where players can track points, discuss issues with one another, post pictures and take polls. The site will be updated with new features over time.
