Primary Data Sources: HR data and Academic Profiles
HR Data of all academic staff and their contract type (Research/Teaching/Combined) was supplied. Each academic profile was manually examined and a description of their main research interests included in the database. Each academic was manually checked and cross validated as to their research alignment to all 17 SDGs (the University metric for 'sustainability'). The Global indicator framework for the Sustainable Development Goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development* was used to identify whether main research interests aligned with an SDG- keeping consistency with the UoS inventory.
Only intention of improving the world in the University staff page (as per point 2, above) was classified as an SDG. For example, an researcher who works on fluid mechanics and their research interests are listed as "maximise both economic and environmental benefits", so SDG6 Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all was selected. In contrast, another research who also works on fluid mechanics, but their researcher profile has no such statement of intent, so no SDGs were noted.

The URL provide is not as accurate as the inventory provided due to the way our system of academic profiles understands the word sustainability and associated key words. A project in 2021 is to accurately tag academic profiles based on the inventory already undertaken by the team. Tagging of academic profiles when created and/or updated aligned with SDG will become a BAU practice.
