Has the institution assessed diversity and equity in terms of campus climate?:
Yes

A brief description of the campus climate assessment(s) :

Over the course of the 2008-2009 academic year, the Committee on Inclusion and Excellence (CIE) conducted a cultural audit titled “What would it take for you to thrive at Vassar?” that gathered student experiences of – and ideas for – campus life and learning at Vassar. The audit culminated in a report outlining the process for gathering data, a summary of findings and some key recommendations.

Vassar participated in the 2009 Consortium on High Achievement and Success (CHAS) survey, which compiled data on the climate for diversity for 20 liberal arts colleges. The CHAS survey included white and non-white respondents, and covered four sections: (1) general satisfaction; (2) experiences with and participation in campus life; (3) stress; and (4) high school background. There are plans to conduct the survey again in 2014.

A survey was also sent out in Spring 2013 concerning bias incidents on campus. The survey was designed and administered by the Campus Life Response Team and was available to the entire campus population. Its aim was to better understand how the campus experienced recent bias incidents and what Vassar as an institution could do to respond to those reactions.
