How many of the institution’s research-producing divisions are covered by a published open access policy that ensures that versions of future scholarly articles by faculty and staff are deposited in a designated open access repository? (All, Some or None):
All

Which of the following best describes the open access policy? (Mandatory or Voluntary):
Voluntary (strictly opt-in)

Does the institution provide financial incentives to support faculty members with article processing and other open access publication charges?:
No

A brief description of the open access policy, including the date adopted, any incentives or supports provided, and the repository(ies) used:

The library maintains an open access repository called ScholarWorks at WMU. The library actively promotes the concept of open access and encourages faculty, staff, and students to deposit their works in ScholarWorks. The University does not mandate the submission of research to this repository, but the policy and procedures governing open access submission to ScholarWorks are available on the website: http://scholarworks.wmich.edu/

The Graduate College requires that all students who submit a thesis or dissertation complete a ScholarWorks permission form (see http://wmich.edu/grad/forms/diss_checkform.pdf and http://libguides.wmich.edu/scholarworks_permissions) at the time the thesis or dissertation is submitted to the Graduate College for review.

The institution's open access policy:

WMU has not mandated an open access policy but encourages open access to scholarly research through its work with developing, maintaining, and promoting ScholarWorks that is supported by the library at WMU.

ScholarWorks, the repository of scholarly works contains actual content - uploaded articles, papers, posters, newsletters, images, etc. by WMU faculty, students and staff. It is intended to be a permanent archive. Authors who contribute content directly accept an online submission agreement stating that they hold the copyright to the work or have been authorized by the copyright holder(s) to upload the work for distribution, and agree to permit this permission to be posted in ScholarWorks@WMU.

Institutional Repositories (IRs) bring together all of a University's research under one umbrella, with an aim to preserve and provide access to that research. IRs are an excellent vehicle for working papers or copies of published articles and conference papers. Presentations, senior theses, and other works not published elsewhere can also be published in the IR.
