A brief description of institution owned and/or managed land that is currently third party certified under one or more of the programs listed above, including the year each certification was achieved and/or renewed:

Western Michigan University was one of 29 campuses to earn the designation of "Tree Campus USA" by the Arbor Day Foundation in 2008, the first year of this award. WMU has been re-certified every year since 2008. We are one of only two colleges in Michigan to receive this certification. The program is modeled on the foundation's popular Tree City USA program, which began in 1976.

In 2015, PGMS awarded WMU a four-star Landscape Management and Operations Accreditation, the highest level of accreditation possible. The accreditation program evaluates strategic grounds management principles and practices that produce and guide the delivery of properties to an attractive, healthy, sustainable and high-quality state.
