We hope you are as excited as we are about the new STARS Website and Benchmarking Tool!

The website was redesigned to make it easier for institutions to learn about STARS and get support during the reporting process as well as to offer advanced tools to facilitate benchmarking with STARS data. The site also provides recognition to STARS-rated institutions  and is designed to increase participation in the program.

To help you get the most out of the new site, here is an overview of its key components.

The About STARS section is most helpful for institution or media seeking to learn more about STARS, the benefits of participating and its history. You can also stay up-to-date by reviewing the News & Announcements page in this section.

The Participate section is where you go to get started. It provides links to register and subscribe for new users as well as links to the reporting tool for those who have already subscribed.  A helpful resource for all users is the “overview” page, which provides an outline of the entire STARS process from start to finish.

The Reports and Data section is where you go to get the data! The information reported through STARS populates a rich dataset of quantitative and qualitative indicators related to sustainability in higher education. There are several ways to access STARS data for analysis and benchmarking. One way to access data is through our new STARS Benchmarking Tool, an application that allows AASHE members to compare colleges and universities based on the scores and metrics reported through STARS.  You can use the Benchmarking Tool to:

  • Select institutions or create groups of institutions for comparison.
  • Select data points and generate charts to compare your selected institutions or groups.
  • Save your Benchmarks for later use or to share with others.
  • Download data for further analysis.

Be sure to check out the “how-to” section for an overview and helpful videos to get started.

The Resources and Support section offers a variety of resources, including the Technical Manual, forms and templates as well as the new Help Center, which features over 100 articles organized by level of knowledge and by STARS main categories. Each article contains helpful information including FAQs, templates, examples and additional resources. Be on the lookout for new resources regularly!

We hope you enjoy the new STARS Website as much as we do!
