Pay Scale Equity (3.0)

This is an optional Innovation & Leadership (IL) credit. IL credits recognize institutions that are seeking innovative solutions to sustainability challenges and demonstrating sustainability leadership in ways that are not otherwise captured in STARS. Scoring in the Innovation and Leadership section is capped at 10 bonus points total.

What kind of documentation is required to earn points for this credit?

Documentation supporting the institution’s reported pay scale ratio is required. Please provide information on methodology used, actual compensation amounts, and/or letter of affirmation from the Human Resources office.

Suggestions for Institutions

  • Work with your human resources office(s) and/or similar to gather information on the compensation scale ratio between the lowest-paid full-time employee and the highest paid senior administrator.

Potential Data Quality Issues

  • Documentation supporting the institution’s reported pay scale ratio from the previous three years must be provided. Affirmation from the human resources office (or similar) is recommended if published documentation is not available.
