A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY (abbr. CWRU) is a world-class university with goals strongly rooted in sustainability, student well-being, transformative research, and a strong sense of community. CWRU developed into its current form through a process of convergence, bringing together a number of independent entities over nearly 200 years. The university name is a combination of the two primary component institutions: Western Reserve University and Case Institute of Technology. For more information, please visit: https://case.edu/ech/articles/c/case-western-reserve-university.

In 2008, former University President Barbara R. Snyder signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, now called the Climate Leadership Network Carbon Commitment, a signature program of Second Nature. This commitment informed the vision of a carbon-neutral campus by 2050 and drove the creation of the 2011 Climate Action Plan, the first formal outline launching strategies to reduce carbon emissions. For more information, please see the 2020 Climate Action Plan Update.

Current CWRU President Eric W. Kaler, assuming the presidency in 2021, has called for the university to “be a force for sustainable change” and stated that “given the strength of our people, our research, and our financial position, it’s incumbent on us to do even more.” In 2023, CWRU has continued to be the top-ranked school in Ohio and one of the nation's top universities, confirming CWRU's status as a global influencer. For more information, please visit: https://case.edu/think/spring2022/message.html and New data-driven ranking places CWRU among the nation’s best.
