The CWU campus chapter of Presidents United to Solve Hunger (PUSH) is a combined effort from students, faculty, staff, and Ellensburg community partners to connect students to resources. PUSH manages a food pantry, an emergency meal fund, and pop-up events to provide boxes of food and hygiene products to students.
Wildcat Pantry:
The Wildcat Pantry in Brooks Library 101C is a free resource for the CWU Community to access food, hygiene products, and the CWU Career Services professional clothing closet. The PUSH student club and advisory committee maintain food is a right, and do not question or refuse food to anyone who visits the pantry. Our goal is to reduce the stigma associated with asking for help or utilizing a food pantry. We strive to create a safe environment for students to get support to ensure their educational goals are realized.
Emergency Meals:
Students who are experiencing food insecurity and need a hot meal can request funds to be dispersed to their Connection Card. If the request is approved, the student will receive $25 (funds may take a few minutes to disperse). The student will have 5 days to use these funds, after which any remaining funds will be returned to the main fund. Students may submit 2 requests each month, no questions asked. After a student's second request, they will be asked to connect with a CWU Case Manager, who can help determine whether the student is eligible for additional long-term resources such as SNAP (formerly known as Food Stamps), WIC (Women with Infants or Children), or other services. The Case Manager can approve the student for a third request after they meet. The system resets quarterly. Additionally, In the fall of 2020, during the global pandemic, CWU Dining Services and CWU Wildcat farm began donating grab-and-go meals and surplus produce to the pantries on campus.
