Greenies Reusable To-Go Containers

A brief description of the campaign:

Denison relaunched the Greenie program after a couple year hiatus. The program aims to get more students and employees to use reusable to-go containers and help to eliminate waste from our dining operations.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

All students received flyers in their mailboxes to start the year about the program. In addition, they received email correspondence from the Office of Sustainability and outreach was posted on Bon Appetiti's social media. Faculty and Staff were alerted to the program via direct emails.

The program is entirely opt-in at this point and is run as a collaboration between Bon Appetit, The Denison Dining Committee (who did tabling in our take-out location) and the Office of Sustainability.

At last count over 200 members of the campus community are participating regularly in this program.

Senior Apartment Composting

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

In 2021-2022, a group of senior students collaborated with teh Office of Sustainability to launch an opt-in composting program for the 550+ senior students living in campus apartments. Apartments could sign up for the program and they were given a composting bucket, outreach materials regarding how and where to compost, and opportunities to provide feedback and suggestions.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

36 apartments ~ 20% of all campus apartments participated in the program. The program collected nearly 150 lbs of compostable food scraps weekly from senior apartment buildings. These scraps were used as feed for a vermicompositng operation at Denison Facilities.
