A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:

We wanted to ask questions that would help us understand if our student population understood what sustainability meant. We reviewed many other university questions. We also wanted to ask questions that were more localized for our students, to see if they understand environmental impacts in our own community and university.

A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :

Residential Life Coordinators for the residential halls sent out an email to all students who live in the residential halls. Posters were also posted around the res halls for students to scan the survey.

A brief summary of results from the literacy assessment(s):

The questions in the survey educated students on a wide variety of aspects of environmental sustainability. Most of them were able to get all the questions correct, with just a few missing a couple of questions. Overall, the survey was received well and showed us that the majority of the student body is knowledgeable about the environment and sustainable practices.
