Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:

Anna Salo-Markowski (University Relations) serves as Wesleyan's representative and Chair of Middletown's Clean Energy Task Force, which advocates for actions and policies related to energy conservation, efficiency, and renewables within the City.

Wesleyan has also been actively represented at Common Council meetings with presentations. Wesleyan, through student and staff leadership, has collaborated with Middletown Area Transit and the City of Middletown in installing bus stop signs on campus, changing a key bus route to better accommodate Wesleyan and the larger Middletown community, and launching the XtraMile on-demand shuttle service in Fall 2022.

Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the state/provincial/regional level:

Wesleyan is a member of the CT Coalition for Climate Action, focused on escalating action through individual action and laws to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide equitable access to healthy, efficient homes and resilient neighborhoods. The Coalition is led by CT-based nonprofits Save the Sound, Conservation Law Foundation, Environment Connecticut, CT League of Conservation Voters, and Sierra Club – CT Chapter.

Yes

Wesleyan signed onto the We Are Still In Pledge in 2017 (https://www.wearestillin.com/about), pledging Wesleyan's commitment to keep the United States' Paris Accord goals. This evolved into America Is All In, which advocates for the whole of American society to cut U.S. carbon emissions in half by 2030 and put the country on track to reach net zero by 2050.https://www.americaisallin.com/whos-in.
