Wastle

A brief description of the campaign:

This was a “Student Center Takeover” event that engaged students in learning about the intersectionality of Waste. Students learned about waste intersectionality in relation to plastic, food products and minority communities. To make the event interesting, it was 'Wordle' themed which allowed participants to gather information in order to figure out the word of the day.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

In April 2022, students came to understand plastic's negative impacts on communities and health. By becoming more aware of the topic, students were driven to be more keen on the impacts of the products they consume, their origins and actions to take to reduce their plastic consumption or recycle properly. The event became a means to influence students on their plastic consumption habits. As a result of this campaign, our monthly waste diversion rate increased from 29.94% in March 2022 to 37.09% in April 2022.

Healthy Transportation Day

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

In Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 the Office of Sustainability a Healthy Transportation Day, a day designed to teach and engage the campus community about Healthy Transportation in fun and interesting ways. We held several events for faculty, staff, students, and community members, including: a commuter breakfast, Healthy Transportation festival and Bike Safety Lunch and Workshop.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Healthy Transportation Day was an event for like-minded individuals, like commuters, to come together and be celebrated. Moreover, this was an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to learn about how to be safe while choosing Health Transportation options. This was through learning about Bike Safety and gaining access to MBTA Charlie cards or understanding how to access the Bentley Shuttle. The Office of Sustainability has hosted events like these over the past few years which empowers the community with knowledge of programs Bentley provides to support alternative transportation methods. This program supported Bentley's increase in commuters taking alternative forms of transportation to campus some of the time, which has increased from 20% in FY2019 to 28% in FY2022.
