Georgia Tech has a goal that every student will take at least one course in sustainability. We have more than 260 courses with an emphasis in sustainability, spanning every college at Georgia Tech.
Varied and numerous in nature, the educational aspects of Georgia Tech's commitment to environmental sustainability reflect our promise to produce the technological leaders of the future.

Georgia Tech is a leader in research in the fields of energy, climate change, nanotechnology, biomedical technology, engineering, management, public policy, transportation and logistics, health information technology, and material science engineering, economic development and tech transfer.
To stimulate cooperation in emerging areas of education and research, Georgia Tech has established a network of more than 100 centers that cut across traditional academic disciplines. Georgia Tech has been serving local foods for over a hundred years.
A Sustainable Dining Committee was formed in 2008 and encouraged the reporting of purchases within sustainable food categories.
41% of Georgia Tech Dining Services food is local and or organic. Organic food options have been added to our food options and currently comprise over 5% of the food offered on campus.
Dining Halls are 98% waste neutral. Food composting occurs in all 3 campus dining halls. They have also moved disposables (containers, stirrers, napkins) to compostable materials and otherwise reusable containers and silverware.
Georgia Tech recently completed its first new dining hall in decades. It was designed and built as a Green Dining Hall and includes a green roof. Simultaneously, an energy conservation project reduced the energy use in our Brittain Dining Hall by 28%.<< show less

Our campus transportation offerings connect with the city's rapid transit system. Appproximately 41% of our students, faculty and staff use alternative transportation to commute to and from campus.

Througout its 135 year history, Georgia Tech has included efficient use of resources, including energy and water, into its academic programs, its research programs, and its operations of campus.
When sustainability is a life style and the campus is a living laboratory of sustainability, sustainability becomes everyone's job, not just the work of special staff.
