The Gettysburg College Sustainability webpages focus on five main themes: policies & commitments, campus initiatives, campus groups, academics, and activism. The About section features information about the college's commitment to sustainability, campus-wide policies and practices, and the Sustainability Advisory Committee. Campus initiatives details the work done through facilities and dining to enhance sustainability. Campus groups highlights student activity that engages sustainability, including clubs, houses, and campus-wide events. Academics provides information on sustainability in the curriculum, and the Get Involved section teaches viewers about simple steps they can take to be come more sustainable members of the campus community. As a whole, these pages are designed to give a comprehensive overview of all the work being done to make Gettysburg College more sustainable.

The Gettysburg College Sustainability Facebook page keeps its followers up to date on the sustainability events happening on and off campus throughout the entire year. Administrators also frequently post relevant photos, interesting facts, movies, cartoons, articles, etc. to keep viewers interested and engaged in sustainability.

Gettysburg College's John F. Jaeger Center for Athletics, Recreation, and Fitness features a sign that makes known its status as a LEED Gold Certified building.

Currently the Dining Services on campus posts signage throughout the dining hall educating students about the benefits of trayless dining and correct portion sizes to reduce food waste. It also has signage posted to advise students and guests about our CSA's through Everblossom Farm/Local Food as well as other local food sources such as Naylor's produce and Weikerts Egg Farm, all located within Adams County.

A brief description of the sustainability walking map or tour:

A student recycling intern created a sustainability walking tour of campus in 2009, although this tour is not currently being publicized or offered to prospective students by the Office of Admissions. However, tours of the campus' sustainability features (such as the Student Garden, Farmhouse, and LEED Gold Certified Athletic Center) are periodically offered to current students during special events such as Sustainability Week in the fall semester and Earthweek in the spring.

As Gettysburg is a residential college, we do not typically have commuter students; however, a carpool board is available for campus community members, and it is strongly encouraged that students walk, bike, or take the bus to get around town.

A brief description of the guide for green living and incorporating sustainability into the residential experience:

“The Greenbook: Green practices of the Gettysburg College Community” is a green-living-guide that was compiled in 2007 by the Gettysburg College student Recycling Interns, and has been updated annually since then. Its contents include information on the college’s sustainability initiatives, facts and figures regarding recycling and being “green”, ways to get more involved on campus, a very brief description of the Environmental Studies department and classes , facts on energy and what the college recycles, information about the Give It Up For Good Sale, and some “easy green steps.”
These “Greenbooks” are distributed to all first-year students by way of tangible, paper books. They are placed in the first year dorms so that each student would have one upon arrival to school for move-in.

A brief description of regular coverage of sustainability in the main student newspaper, either through a regular column or a reporter assigned to the sustainability beat:

The Features section of the newspaper used to have a column from GECO (Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization) each week, which would cover sustainability and environment related news on and off campus each week. The newspaper did not have a column this year, but the newspaper staff members are working with GECO Club to reestablish this column next year.

A collaborative effort between the Adams County Food Policy Council, Adams County Farmers Market Association, and the College has been the yearly publication of a Local Foods Resource Booklet which lists all the local farms in the county who sell at markets, run farm stands, or offer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares. The booklet also provides information about seasonal foods and where to find local food options in local restaurants and grocery stores, and also includes information food security in Adams County and the resources available to households that are food-insecure.
