A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:

We took the total campus enrollment (4733 students) and subtracted the 85 graduate students; the 530 commuter parking permits sold; and further deducted another 100 to account for the available city parking spots adjacent to campus. This leaves 4018 students either living on campus or living within walking distance.
