Open Air Market Tabling

A brief description of the campaign:

At the weekly Open Air markets, the NAU Green Fund tables and engages with the NAU community. The discourse created by these interactions brings awareness to campus sustainability and climate action and educates students about how to get involved.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Since the Green Fund has started to focus its efforts and its programming on students during this weekly event, we have seen an increase in student participation in sustainability programs. This past year, three project ideas came from these discussions and have since been funded through the NAU Green Fund and completed.

Brandon McNamara- Quantifying Financed Emissions at NAU: A Novel, Data-based Approach to the Fossil Fuel Divestment Movement.

Ross Priehs- Quantifying the cradle-to-gate GHG emissions associated with
NAU’s purchases of goods, services, and capital equipment.

Tongayi Mwedzi- Evaluating the benefits of the 2022 True Blue Summer flex policy: Financial, human, and environmental sustainability of the “New NAU workplace”.

**Event Title**: The Better World Film Series - Recap

**Dates**: April 10, April 11, and April 12, 2023 (Annually)

**Location**: NAU International Pavilion, Auditorium 101A, Flagstaff, AZ

**Description**:

"The Better World Film Series," is an annual, captivating, three-night event that unfolded this year from April 10 to April 12, 2023, at the NAU International Pavilion in Flagstaff, AZ. Presented by Green Jacks, this series is a remarkable exploration of sustainability and our collective journey toward a better world.

**Night 1 - April 10, 2023**:
Film Title: "Truth Tellers"
Presenter: Professor Ted Martinez

"Truth Tellers" took center stage on our opening night. Professor Ted Martinez guided us through this thought-provoking documentary, offering invaluable insights into the truth-seekers and advocates who champion sustainability and transparency in our society.

**Night 2 - April 11, 2023**:
Film Title: "Last Call at the Oasis"
Presenter: Flagstaff Water

Our second evening featured "Last Call at the Oasis," a powerful exploration of the global water crisis. Flagstaff Water led us through a discussion on the importance of water conservation and the impact of our local efforts on this critical issue.

**Night 3 - April 12, 2023**:
Film Title: "The Monarch"
Presenter: SLUGG and the Flagstaff Sustainability Office

On the concluding night of the series, we delved into the world of "The Monarch" and its significance in our ecosystem. SLUGG (Student-Led Unity Garden Group) and the Flagstaff Sustainability Office inspired us with their vision for a sustainable future and the role the monarch butterfly plays in our local biodiversity.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our presenters, attendees, and all those who engaged in meaningful conversations about the pressing issues of our time during "The Better World Film Series." Your presence made this series a tremendous success, and your commitment to sustainability fuels our shared journey toward a brighter future.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The Better World Film Series was attended by approximately 150 unique individuals.
All students left with more knowledge about sustainability and also had a chance to chat with the tabling groups at the event (Green Jacks, NAZCCA, Flagstaff Water Services, SSLUG, and Fossil Free NAU).
