The demand for sustainable development and environmental protection is growing worldwide. The Environmental Engineering Technology program focuses on stewardship of environmental resources. The curriculum includes aspects of water resources management and protection, water supply and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment, soil remediation, solid waste management, air quality, GIS and remote sensing, environmental management, project management, and health and safety. The program provides opportunity for you to gain work experience in relevant industries through two co-op work terms.

In the Environmental Engineering Technology program, you take more advanced courses and build on the competencies you gained in your first year. The focus is on application and design. Courses include subjects such as:

• Environmental Sciences,
• Water Resources,
• Water & Wastewater Treatment,
• Waste Management,
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and
• Environmental Management

An applied technical project is incorporated into the final year.

Objectives
The Environmental Engineering Technology program balances career related technical skills with transferable skills most sought by leading employers. Graduate students will be able to:
• Apply analytical and research skills and sustainability principles to environmental issues.
• Use effective environmental management and project administration techniques
• Communicate effectively through public speaking, clear writing, and active listening
• Develop proficiency in computer software applications related to the environmental field
• Think independently and work collaboratively to analyze and solve problems
• Collect and manage information by using an appropriate technology
• Understand and use numbers by observing, recording, and reporting data
• Promote effective health and safety practices
• Demonstrate ethical behaviours and practices

After completing the foundation year in the Social Innovation and Community Development program, you will have the option of choosing to complete your diploma year in Community Development.

Courses within this program are experiential and project-based. The faculty and participants operate as an integrated team, collaborating on course content, instruction, multi-course projects, and work placement experiences. The program is laptop-based to increase convenience and flexibility.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes
1. Practices universal Community Development principles to build sustainable healthy and equitable communities.
2. Fosters trust relationships and builds social capital to create viable teams and networks to sustain the community development process.
3. Work with communities to build and maintain social capital that supports socially-inclusive community ownership and teamwork.
4. Communicates across different cultures and sectors using visual, written, and oral methods that support cooperation and understanding among community stakeholders.
5. Uses and adapts technologies to create and communicate information, as well as to manage project deadlines, resources, and deliverables
6. Plans, documents, and evaluates organizational and community initiatives using a variety of participatory methods.
7. Supports community planning by designing, implementing, and reporting on research conducted to map assets, assess needs, and monitor trends and new practices in community development
8. Engages with community to identify, maintain, and assess community resources.
9. Identifies funding sources to generate revenue for community development initiatives.
10. Writes grant proposals to secure funds for various community initiatives.
11. Manages and administers organizational resources to provide stability and sustainability.
