SUNY Fredonia has several active and well-supported student groups.The Sierra Club is the nation's largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization, with Fredonia’s branch promoting and teaching a sustainable lifestyle to students and faculty throughout the campus as well as the local community.

Several others include environmental/sustainability concerns among their goals: the Biology Club, Campus Greens/National Green Party, the Geology Club, and Enactus.

ENACTUS formerally known as SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) "is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe. Earth Week has been expanded to Earth Month and is celebrated throughout the month of April. In 2017, David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes - photographers for National Geographic - came to give the EarthMonth keynote address to campus.

SUNY Fredonia is known for its music, theater, and art programs. Some presentations that were given at Rosch Recital Hall this year were from a duo of Lynn Neymann and Joshya Davis who developed "Toss" which is a dance/soundscape that examines overconsumption and today's throw away mentality.

A biology faculty member organizes Eurasian Honeysuckle pulls and Buckthorn cuts each year, encouraging students to take a hike through Zoar Valley or around campus to assist in the removal of these invasive species. Leave No Trace principals are applies (with the exception of removing the invasives).

Each semester the Sustainability Office accepts one student worker. The position focuses primarily on public relations with tasks including:
Completing interviews and writing stories for the newsletter
Maintaining social media sites including facebook, twitter, and instagram
Assisting with sustainability reporting
Working with the campus PR department on press releases
Student workers are expected to attend Sustainability Committee meetings if their course schedule permits and work with committee members on various projects.
