A brief description of the program, including examples of peer-to-peer outreach activities:

The Lands & Energy committee presents at weekly faculty meetings, periodic All College Meetings, and at weekly community meetings about energy saving ideas, new processes on campus, recycling measures, water use, paper use, and more. They also have put up kiosks across the campus that inform about different features on campus, such as our solar array or hoop houses, and they update those on a yearly basis. They also survey employees yearly for ideas and brainstorming about how to move forward with sustainability issues on campus.

The employee educators self-select themselves to be on the Lands & Energy Committee. Currently the employees on the Lands & Energy Committee are:
Adrian Owens, faculty in Outdoor Education
Farley Brown, faculty in Ecology
Kelly Jones, Director of Buildings & Grounds
Gwyneth Harris, Farm Manager


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach:

Each year the Director of Communications meets with the Lands & Energy committee as a whole and talks to them about best ways to conduct peer outreach on campus, how to best use the e-news as a vehicle, and updating the kiosks across campus with up-to-date info and graphics.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination):

Sterling College has a budget line for the Lands & Energy committee that can go toward training and outreach materials. There is also a weekly e-news from the Communications office that goes out to faculty & staff that has periodic updates from the Lands & Energy committee. The same updates also reach students.
