In previous years, a project run by students and faculty produced biodiesel from waste oil for use by the campus fleet. B20 was used in warmer months and B15 in cooler months. However after several vehicles experienced breakdowns due to the biodiesel gelling, the campus fleet switched to B5 fuel. In 2010, UBC's campus fuel pump dispensed B5 biodiesel which is used by 48 vehicles year round.
