A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory (including the types of faculty and staff included as researchers):

Data were collated by staff and student interns at the UC San Diego Sustainability Programs Office (SPO) via UC San Diego research websites and annual Sponsored Research reports. The inventory was then reviewed by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. An email was sent to all faculty with a link to the inventory for their review so they could send edits and additions to the SPO. The SPO maintains the inventory in real time, updating as new information comes in.
