Has the institution engaged in a structured assessment process during the previous three years to improve diversity, equity and inclusion on campus?:

A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:

Every year UC San Diego conducts a survey of employees (Staff at Work) and students ), both of which include questions related to campus climate and diversity.

The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) section of the [email protected] survey includes 50 questions in three sections which explore satisfaction with the university and department climate with relation to EDI, experiences of uncivil or ostracizing behavior at work, and experiences of negative behavior directed at an individual due to his or her race/ethnicity or gender.

Does the assessment process address campus climate by engaging stakeholders to assess the attitudes, perceptions and behaviors of faculty, staff, administrators and students, including the experiences of underrepresented groups?:

Does the assessment process address student outcomes related to diversity, equity and success (e.g. graduation/success and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:

Does the assessment process address employee outcomes related to diversity and equity (e.g. pay and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs and initiatives:

The 2015 Staff at Work Survey found that, overall, a majority of respondents were comfortable with the climate at UC San Diego, and that people from different backgrounds get along well. The top climate opportunities are to (1) provide constructive criticism and (2) work to foster harmony. On average, staff members with mental or physical disabilities, Black staff members, American Indian staff members, and LGB staff members were more likely to give lower ratings to climate items.

During academic year 2017-2018, UC San Diego is launching its first ever Strategic Plan for Inclusive Excellence to shape the future of our university and ensure our continued level of excellence. The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will lead the campus in the plan’s development and implementation.
